I am always looking for ways to make healthier meals and snacks for our family. I despise the words-high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oil amongst other ingredients I can't even pronounce. "Healthy" snacks in our family and daycare are hard to come by. It is so easy to open up a box of crackers or bring along a convenient packaged snack. So when I spot an easy to make "healthy" recipe I jump all over it. I came across an easy to make healthy granola bar recipe on a site Super Healthy Kids. Love, love her blog. Great healthy recipes for your kids and family! So here is the recipe I found-
Basic Granola Bars
2 C. Oats
1 C. brown sugar
1 C. Whole Wheat flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 C. honey
I also added 1/3 C. of mini semi sweet chocolate chips.
Mix all ingredients. Will be crumbly when mixed. Grease a 11x13 pan. Press firmly in pan. Bake 325 degrees for 20-23 minutes. Make sure you don't over bake or they will be very hard. I know this from experience! My kids plus all of the daycare kids LOVED them and the best part, no high fructose corn syrup!
